Six Firms bid for two Underground Contract Packages of Chennai Metro Phase 2

Chennai, India (City Transport Information): The Chennai Metro Rail Restricted (CMRL) has opened technical bids for underground contract packages UG-01 and UG-02 for Hall 4 of Section 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail Challenge on August 16, 2021. A complete of 10 bids have been obtained from multinational civil engineering companies.

Package deal UG-01

Scope of Work

Development of underground stations at Mild Home, Kutchery Street, Alwarpet, Bharathidasan Street together with underground stabling yard and cross over at Mild Home Station and related twin tunnel, mission begin from chainage 0+001m to finish chainage 5+150m (down line) of Hall 4 of Section 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Challenge. Below this contract bundle, a complete of 5.15 km underground tunnel from Bharathidasan Street Station to Mild Home is required to construct.

Package deal UG-02

Scope of Work

Development of underground stations at Boat Membership, Nandanam, Panagal Park, Kodambakkam, Kodambakkam Flyover together with underground crossover at Panagal Park Station and related twin tunnel, minimize & cowl field, U part and ramp mission begin from chainage 5+150m to finish chainage 10+0.27m (down line) of Hall 4 of Section 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Challenge. Below this contract bundle, a complete of 4.877 km underground tunnel from Kodambakkam Flyover to Boat Membership is required to construct.

Tenders for each packages had been floated in February 2021. The development of the underground part (Mild Home – Energy Home Ramp) of Hall 4 shall be financed by the Asian Improvement Financial institution (ADB). ADB agrees to offer monetary help of Rs 5,890 (Approx. US$780 million) to the Authorities of India.
